Jenna K's Mate sweater pattern in Finnish and in print.

"As I pressed my face against the hazy green skein of yarn and inhaled the scent of sheep and sun, I thought of the strong-tasting mate drink, consumed from a gourd shell. The drink, made by brewing the leaves and branches of the mate tree, has invigorating effects and is enjoyed especially in Uruguay, South Africa, where Urya Wool is from. Mate has been used especially by the Guaraní, the most important indigenous people in South America, and the drink's name comes from the Quechua word mati, meaning drinking vessel."

Mate is a top-down sweater with a cross-stitch pattern on the yoke. The sweater's collar is knitted in double rib and the cuffs are knitted with long rib knits, which are turned twice like the collar. The hem of the shirt is knitted with shortened rows at the back so that the hem is longer at the back than at the front.
