Austermann Step 4 Classic is a classic sock yarn that remains popular year after year. The four-ply yarn is also much more than high-quality and durable. The yarn is treated with aloe vera and jojoba extract, which makes it soft and gentle on the skin, pleasant to hold and very lovely to knit with. The effect of the treatment lasts up to 40 washes. A 100 gram ball contains 420 meters of yarn, so one ball can make a pair of socks for even a larger foot. One ball is enough for an adult pair of socks up to size 46, and about 4-5 balls of yarn are enough for a woman's M-size sweater. Step is also very suitable for machine knitting due to its strength.

The yarn is easy to care for as it can be machine washed on a wool cycle. Step sock yarn has been treated to be machine washable using a new ecological EXP method. EXP is also the first wool quality process in the world to meet the strict criteria of the Bluesign® and GOTS standards, and it is compliant with the Eco-Tex standard. The name EXP comes from the word "EX-Pollution", which means that the treatment process minimizes environmental pollution.
